Tom Cruise has been in Birmingham New Street filming scenes for the new Mission Impossible movie, the eighth in the franchise.

Part of the station was cordoned off and transformed into Abu Dhabi airport, where scenes are reportedly taking place.

Cruise was also spotted eating at Asha’s, an Indian restaurant in Birmingham a few days ago, alongside the director, Christopher McQuarrie and others.

Escalators to Grand Central and various food places were closed, with studio lights filling New Street. Signs were up blocking the escalators stating that filming is taking place between the 22nd-25th August.

Black screens were erected around various parts of the station, where filming is taking place across the station, including the old John Lewis store.

The film is reportedly due to be released in 2023, with plot details under wraps.

After finishing for the day, Cruise and four others had an Indian at Asha’s, a renowned curry house in Birmingham.

The Birmingham Tab spoke to Nouman, the manager of Asha’s Birmingham, who said that “Tom and the other guests came on a recommendation and ordered lots of different dishes including a cauliflower curry, chicken tikka kebab and a chicken tikka masala”.

“Tom and the others loved the masala so much that he ordered another one”.

The restaurant tweeted an image of Tom and the staff, which has now amassed 10k likes and has been picked up by the national press.

He also told The Birmingham Tab, “We asked if they could spill any beans about the new film but all they said is that they were in Birmingham for a few more days”.

Filming for the new Mission Impossible film has also been reported to be taking place across England, including in London and Derbyshire.

Who knows, maybe Birmingham will become the new Hollywood…
