Hold on to your wigs and meet the 12 new queens of Drag Race UK season three
I’m ready to clap for the bing bang bong all over again
The drought since Drag Race UK ended in March has been one of the hardest we’ve had to live through. Sure, we’ve had All Stars, Drag Race Down Under and Drag Race Spain to feast on in its absence, but none of them have come close to the cultural phenomenon that Drag Race UK season two was for us on our cursed little island. The nation came together, we bing bang bonged and we Bimini Bon Boulashed. For the first few months of the year, Thursdays became our sanctuary of queer togetherness. Social media was alive with discussion, we were all proud of our queer talent on the world stage and straight lads who’d never dabbled in Drag Race before found themselves cheering on queens after accidentally getting invested when their girlfriends put it on. A gorgeous time.
And that time is about to start all over again. Let’s face it, this summer has been a bit of a shite let down filled with bad weather and England losing the Euros. Summer’s over and an Autumn of amazing drag is about to start! BBC has finally announced what queens will be competing for a crown in Drag Race UK season three, and the lineup is incredible. The charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent is off the scales – so let’s meet the cast!
Kitty Scott Claus, 29, Birmingham
Birmingham’s Kitty says she’s going to be the personality and the fun, and that she’s a bit of eye candy “for the dads”. Relatable. All about the three B’s… Busty, blonde and bubbly. Her Kimberley Walsh impression is the most iconic thing I’ve seen all day.
Charity Kase, 24, Manchester and London
Are you seeing this DRAGON drag??? Wowing. Charity Kase describes herself as a mashup of the Manchester and London drag scene and calls herself “hairy, scary and a total fairy”. She says she’s bringing shock, horror, gore and glamour to the main stage for Drag Race UK season three.
Scarlett Harlett, 26, East London
Following in Bimini’s East London footsteps, Scarlett says she’s old east end, real east end, PROPAH! She says she loves to take the piss out of herself and other people, and says she’s going to have the acting challenges in the bag.
Vanity Milan, 29, South London
Vanity has only been doing drag for a year, but don’t underestimate her. She says she’s gone from “0-100” real quick. She describes the Vanity Milan recipe as sugar, spice and everything nice and is Jamaican. Describes herself as not a hun, not a diva, but REAL – and is here to serve black excellence. Icon.
Choriza May, 30, Newcastle
The Theresa May punning icon originally hails from Valencia, Spain before she moved to the toon. Choriza describes herself as a sexy mama and the queen of drama, and I’m so ready for her to bring some melodrama and comedy to the main stage. In her own words, “I’d rather be dead than basic.”
Krystal Versace, 19, Kent
19!! NINETEEN! Krystal says she can perform, act and turn a look – describing herself as the full package. She says her drag is “hot as BEEP” and is here to put on a show.
Victoria Scone, 27, Cardiff
Victoria Scone is making RuPaul’s Drag Race herstory by being the first cis female contestant to ever be on the show, but is determined to be known by more than the AFAB label and prove she is first and foremost an exceptional drag artist. She’s here to make amazing representation and prove that drag is for everyone. She’s bringing the camp and the glamour.
Elektra Fence, 29, Burnley
Describing herself as “the pocket rocket of UK drag”, and is bringing true small town Northern vibes with pies and pints. She’s London based now, and prides herself on being real and making a safe space for everyone. Can do the splits and tricks if you need her to and is a trained dancer.
Ella Vaday, 32, Dagenham
Dagenham’s finest export describes herself as a professional West End actress and singer and dancer, starring in Book of Mormon, Wicked and Joseph and the Technicolour Dream Coat. She’s going to be bringing all the diva songs the competition and says she loves nothing more than being stupid.
Anubis, 19, Brighton
Following in Joe Black’s Brighton footsteps, Anubis is here to represent her Egyptian heritage. She’s been in the music industry since she was 13 and says she’s known for her sultry vocals. A self described silly old tart that’s an old lady trapped inside a 19 year old’s body, Anubis seems like she’s going to be a wild addition to the cast.
River Medway, 22, Medway
Representing the Kent drag scene, of which River says there’s no distinct style. Describes her drag as camp and she’s 50 per cent white British, 50 per cent Singaporean. Is looking forward to anything dancing and singing and says she’s going to nail the rusical whilst exploring and showing off her heritage.
Veronica Green, 36, Rochdale
HOORAY! Veronica is BACK! So exciting to see such a talented frontrunner of season two back to dominate, and the trained vocalist seems to be in it to win it after Covid cut her season two run short. The other queens should definitely be intimidated because Veronica has already proven she’s got what it takes to get far!
