A four-hour 911 call and hospital updates: The latest details we know about Perez Hilton
Much more about what happened has become clear
This week, news emerged that celebrity blogger Perez Hilton had shared a graphic livestream, which appeared to show him self-harming. Since the news first became clear, the latest updates have shared more about what happened, and the family of Perez Hilton has now spoken out.
The video, which happened on Tuesday evening local time, is reported to have shown the father of three covered in blood, holding a knife, making cuts to his body and face.
Emergency services were seen outside his Miami home on Tuesday night, as Perez, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr, is said to have “barricaded” himself inside his home. Paramedics were later spotted wheeling someone into an ambulance.

On Wednesday, it was reported Perez Hilton had been hospitalised following a disturbing livestream
Not long after the stream had happened, extremely graphic clips and videos from it began spreading across various different social media platforms. The sheriff’s office confirmed it had responded to the incident, and spoke to family members at the scene.
In a follow-up statement, the sheriff’s office then confirmed the person was “safely recovered” and taken to a local hospital, where he was receiving medical attention.
Police added that a crisis response unit and licensed mental health professionals were also “on scene providing support and resources to the individual’s family”.
TikTok spoke out about the ‘error’ that allowed the video to stay live
The video is said to have been live for 15 minutes, as horrified viewers reported what they were seeing to the police. However, people who claim to have watched the video have said it lasted closer to half an hour. Hilton’s TikTok account was suspended moments later.
TikTok then blamed a “moderator error” for the video being up for so long, despite the site having clear guidelines against this sort of content.
A TikTok spokesperson told TMZ: “Our automated moderation systems flagged the live stream within minutes and routed it to our US moderation team for review. However, a moderator error caused a delay in the removal.”
TikTok’s official content guidelines do not allow “content that shows, promotes, or provides instructions for suicide or self-harm” as well as “graphic, violent, or disturbing content.”
The 911 call lasted nearly four hours
Multiple calls were made to 911 from concerned members of the public, who had seen the video. According to dispatch audio obtained by TMZ, the patient was described as a 48-year-old male who may have ingested multiple prescription medications and was self harming.
The dispatch audio has also been heard by USA Today, and the publication reported the call lasted around four hours. Miami-Dade County dispatchers are said to have been warned the man was possibly armed, and needed treatment for his injuries. The call had been labelled a “possible suicide”.
The first calls came in around 7pm on Tuesday, and responders were told to wait nearby, before entering the house later. A police spokesperson said that “deputies tactically disengaged while continuing to monitor the situation.”
The sheriff added: “In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritise de-escalation by creating time, distance, and opportunities for communication. Unless there is an immediate threat to others, slowing the situation and utilising crisis intervention techniques can reduce the likelihood of a suicide-by-cop encounter and minimise the risk of injury to the individual, deputies and the public.”
First responders who arrived on the scene gave “basic life support” which is one tier below “advanced life support” which would be given for conditions such as heart attacks.
According to USA Today, at around 10:40pm, emergency staff were again sent to the home, and around 11pm reported working alongside police to enter and tend to Hilton.
