Perez Hilton is a single dad to three children, and here’s what he’s shared about family life

Following concern over Perez Hilton after a distressing TikTok livestream from his Miami home, many people have been searching to learn more about his life away from the spotlight, including his family.

The livestream prompted “multiple calls” to the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office from viewers who reported a person live-streaming acts of self harm. Deputies attended Hilton’s home, where they spoke with family members outside. Police later confirmed Hilton was alone inside when officers arrived.

Away from his career as a celebrity blogger, Perez Hilton is a single father to three children aged 13, 11 and nine, all of whom were born via gestational surrogacy.

He welcomed his eldest child, son Mario, in February 2013, before daughters Mia Alma and Mayte Amor were born in May 2015 and October 2017. Although each pregnancy involved a different gestational surrogate, all three children share the same egg donor and are genetically related to Hilton.

Becoming a parent marked a major turning point in Hilton’s personal life. Shortly after his son was born, he moved to New York with his young family, explaining at the time on Twitter: “I love New York and that is where me and my growing family want to call home right now.”

Over the years, Hilton has regularly spoken about fatherhood on social media and in interviews, often sharing glimpses of life with his children and describing being a parent as one of the most important parts of his life.

“When news first broke that I had a son, I was a trending topic on Twitter for over a day. Some of the reaction was negative, but it didn’t bother me”, he told HuffPost. “Most, however, was positive. Children bring people together. There is a bond parents have with other parents”

His parenting has also attracted criticism at times. In 2018, Hilton faced backlash after saying he hoped his son Mario would be heterosexual because “it would be easier” than being gay. He also said he would not sign his son up for dance classes because “dance class might make [his] kid gay.” The comments were widely criticised, and Hilton later addressed the controversy publicly.
