Radio 1’s DJ Monki is coming to York this Friday

We spoke to the “underground tastemaker”

Radio 1 DJ Monki will be performing at On & On this Friday 15th April at Fibbers.

This will be the first time she performs in York, and is usually resident at Annie Mac’s critically acclaimed touring club night ‘AMP,’ and a regular fixture behind the decks at clubs and festivals around the UK and Europe.

The Facebook event for the night describes Monki as an “underground tastemaker championing new electronic talent.”

Punters have been told to expect “box-fresh bass music inspired sets including everything from piano house to hissing snares and skeleton shattering sub bass.”

The 21 year old released her ‘Monki & Friends Volume 4′ EP yesterday, so the night will be one of her first shows playing it out.

We asked Monki what it was like being an international DJ at our age, rather than going to University. She said: “A few of my mates went to uni and a few of them went to uni in London so I got to live uni life through them I guess. I moved out of both my parents’ places when I was younger so I didn’t miss out on that either. I guess I don’t know any different!”

The Tab also asked her for some exam and revision tips. “I wasn’t great at exams so my tips might be a bit useless! I fell asleep in one of my AS exams. I don’t think I would have done very well at uni if I’m honest, it’s not for everyone. We get pressured into going but it really won’t make or break your life!”

The Tab would suggest remaining active during exam season, and what better way of doing so than by cutting some quadrilaterals in Fibbers on Friday night.

Only final release tickets are still available and you can find out more about the event here.
