Plans to demolish Rio’s nightclub in Leamington

The proposal wants to replace it with multi occupancy apartments

Plans to demolish Rio’s nightclub in Leamington are set to be refused when discussed on Tuesday.

Warwick District Council planning committee has been recommended to reject the proposals for the demolition of the club, which is on Bedford Street.

The proposal highlights an intention to replace the club, which is now marked as permanently closed on Google, with multi occupancy apartments.

The proposals outline replacing the nightclub with a four story building, containing 46 bedrooms arranged in eight clusters, with shared kitchens, living and dining room.

However, objections have been made, including to the size of the development, and the lack of parking.

But, councillors have been recommended to grant permission for shops and 65 student flats at Kenilworth’s Talismans Square.

The proposal for the five-story L-shaped building has also been met with a number of objections.
