SU ban the sale of The Sun

We’ve joined the rest of them

You’ll no longer be able to get your tit fix from the SU shops.

The Student Union voted on Monday to ban the newspaper from sale at shops across all three campuses.

The No More Page 3 motion have been victorious after starting their campaign back earlier this year.

It stated that it aimed to remove publications that contain pornographic and misogynistic images as it ‘normalises the objectification of women’s bodies’.

Third year Print Journalist, Ryan Cahil, think that the move is a waste of time.

He said: “The uni don’t ban events such as pole shows and wet t-shirt competitions at Forum, that could be seen to portray women in a similar way to The Sun’s Page 3. It seems a bit pointless, you can see tits everywhere.”

Finalist, Georgia May Collins is focusing her dissertation on the No More Page 3 campaign and said: “If people want to read The Sun, they’ll just walk down the road to Tesco and buy it from there. Everyone takes their top off in Ocean and that doesn’t seem to be offending anyone.”

Uni of’s Student Union also decided to sack off the tabloid, back in 2014, due to it’s Page 3 feature.
