CBJ engineer passes away after years of working at Trent

Steve Coates suddenly died last Wednesday

A long term serving member of Trent’s Journalism Centre has sadly passed away.

Steve Coates, or Geordie Steve as he was known, died suddenly on Wednesday.

Steve joined NTU in 1998 and will be known by many journalism students as one of the engineers. From helping students create packages, to giving tours on open days, Steve helped thousands and will be sorely missed.

He leaves behind a wife Dena and two children Rachel and Jamie.

A third year, broadcast journalism student, Rachel Yates said: “He was always there and willing to help students. Always happy and no problem was too big or too small. He will be greatly missed.”

Nottingham Trent’s student service and the Chaplaincy Service are working together at a time that may be tough for many students.
