Tighten your laces and pull up your socks; Football vs Homophobia is back

It’s going to be a ball

The annual 'Football vs Homophobia' event is returning for 2018, kicking off on Saturday April 21 at Falmer Sports Complex.

Organised by the University of Sussex Women's Football Club, the tournament is raising money for Stonewall; a charity who fight against homophobia in sport and support the LGBTQ+ community, and is being sponsored by Equality FC and Lewes FC Women.

Running from 11am to 5pm, the event is comprised of two mixed gender tournaments with both a competitive league and a fun league. Teams are made up of 6 players with 2 substitutions however, additional subs can be added for £3.75 each. All matches will take place on astro turf and 3G pitches at the Falmer Sports Complex.

A bake sale, glitter station and raffle will also be running alongside the tournament, with prizes ranging from i360 tickets to a 10litre tank of SeaCider!

The event will finish with a presentation of prizes to the winners of each league, but the fun doesn't stop there:

The UoS Women's Football Club is also hosting an after party at East Slope bar from 5pm to 7pm, with all tournament attendees getting 50p off their first drink. Food vouchers worth £5.50 can also be purchased prior to the event.

Football vs Homophobia is open to all genders, sexualities, ages and abilities. Spectators are also welcome. So whether you can bend it like Beckham or cheer like Torrance Shipman, whip out your fancy dress and join in the fun!

Tickets for team or single entries are available to purchase here. Sales close at midday on Wednesday 18th April.
