Hangover Breakfast: Victoria’s Coffee Shop

We’re sending Alison Gilchrist around Stirling to find the best place to get a breakfast when you wake up feeling sorry for yourself. This week, she tries Victoria’s Coffee Shop.

My hangover breakfast odyssey brought me to Victoria’s Coffee Shop on Kings Street. Many people have told me to review this charming café, promising ‘good, old fashioned, home cooked food’ – I was not disappointed.

French toast, bacon and maple syrup: £4.35.

To truly get rid of your hangover you should resist sugary foods that will aggravate your unbalanced blood sugar levels and opt for something balanced and healthy, but you already know that right? So why not just indulge.

With this philosophy in mind I ordered French toast, bacon and maple syrup with a side of caramel shortbread and tea (£7.25 in total): just to keep those blood sugars even higher. It was just perfect. They offer the staple traditional breakfast, filled rolls, breakfast sandwich, and much more all at a reasonable price.

Perfect people watching position.

The other great thing is the silence! I have never appreciated relative silence so much. No music, no loud customers. Spotted cloths adorn the tables, and delicious looking homemade cakes cover the counter. Truly like stepping back in time. It’s a little gem, small but perfectly formed.

Just don’t go looking for gourmet. But if you’re craving comfort food like your Granny would make then you’ve found your spot. And – even better – this gem may be a local secret, so let’s keep it between us.

Sitting at the window in a quaint booth I could observe the throng of King Street as people scurry about ever busy for a Monday morning. People watching is a peculiar pastime of mine if you have not already guessed.

If you’re a prolific frequenter of Victoria’s Coffee shop do tell me how lunch is! I may even extend by hangover indulgences to lunch.
