Stirling University has said the students involved in the infamous bus video have “been suspended from representing the University”.

The information was revealed in an email statement to students and staff to apologise for the recent YouTube video – which was dubbed Busgate at the recent lad culture debate.

“We used to play for Stirling, in a hockey team. We used to play for Stirling, we don’t anymore.”

On behalf of the university, Deputy Principal John Gardner sent the email to explain what disciplinary action was being carried out. An investigation was also conducted by the University’s Student Union over the course of the week.

Gardner said: “Upon Receipt of their report, I will take appropriate institutional action.”

It is presumed that the partaking hockey players have been suspended from the hockey team. Whether this is permanent or not is not known, but many believe those involved should be banned from any future activities representing the uni.

The email was sent amid the outcry that has reached national news throughout the UK. Gardner issued the email in response to the University’s acting secretary’s statement reiterating the university’s policy.

“The university takes incidents of this nature very seriously,” said Eileen Schofield, Acting University Secretary and Chief Operating Officer: “where appropriate, disciplinary action will be taken.”

Bus operators Firstgroup Scotland are also aware of the video. Their @FirstScotland Twitter contained a number of tweets connected to the incident. It stated that they “will be speaking to the University of Stirling to identify those on the bus”.
