All you need to know about Sheffield’s music venues

Here’s a selection of the best

With a venue to suit almost every musical taste imaginable, the Steel city doesn’t disappoint when it comes to fulfilling your musical desires.

From reliving rock history to catching those up and coming artists, here are our favourites.

1) The O2 Academy

Home to some big and not-so-big names

Located in Sheffield city centre, the O2 has hosted loads of great nights this year alone including MK, the Courteneers, and Basement Jaxx.

It’s pretty big inside which means loads of space to boogie the night away. There’s also a balcony type area upstairs if crowds aren’t your thing.

Make sure to pre-drink a substantial amount before any night here though, drink prices are a little on the steep side.

2) Corporation

Rotersand at Corp

Students know Corporation or ‘Corp’ to be home of the infamous skool disco – turn up in a school uniform and get absolutely wankered.

But there’s more to Corp than quadvods and blue pints though, and that comes in the form of live music.

Corp is one of the top three live band venue and alternative music nightclubs in the UK, showcasing a wide range of rock and metal bands each week.

It”s still Corp so don’t expect a classy night out. Don’t touch the walls and you’ll be fine. Also, enter moshpits at your own risk.

3) The Night Kitchen

So edgy, but so far out

A bit further afield is The Night Kitchen, cooking up the best sounds of underground music Sheffield has to offer.

Created in the shell of one of the Steel City’s infamous cutlery factories, TNK’s labyrinth of enchanting corridors make it unique from Sheffield’s other music venues.

TNK claim that “creation & consumption of aural, visual and indeed emotional pleasures are paramount”, and the venue reflects this effectively with colourful paintings and visuals hanging from the walls and trees.

The likes of Daniel Avery and garage legend DJ EZ have played here.

4) Leadmill

Up and coming indie bands love Leadmill

Probably older than most of the baby-faced bands that once started out there, The Leadmill is one of the most prestigious music venues in Sheffield.

Besides early career gigs from the likes of Muse, Oasis, Coldplay, White Stripes, and Stereophonics, the Leadmill was also the place where Arctic Monkey’s first showcased both of their soon to be Brit Award winning albums.

Voted Best Live Music Venue in Sheffield, and with drink prices lower than a chav’s kitted out Corsa, the Leadmill isn’t one to miss.

5) Motorpoint Arena

The Motorpoint is always on point

Sheffield’s only Arena concert venue, the Motorpoint is a go-to for live music fans.

With screens, lights and pyrotechnics galore, any concert at the Motorpoint is sure to be a great one – it’s like the live music version of Christmas.

Although prices aren’t the cheapest, you definitely get what you pay for as the Motorpoint Arena showcases some of the world’s biggest stars including Paramore, Katy Perry and Drake.

It’s only a short tram ride away, and even if your seats are right up in the rafters, the view’s still pretty decent.
