A witness of the emergency activity at the scene said: “The police were here for a long time and had difficulty gaining entrance”.

It has been confirmed by a Royal Holloway spokesperson that the man was a member of security staff at Royal Holloway.

Schroder Court, the sheltered accommodation residence, is adjacent to the popular RHUL student area of Magna Road and Bond Street in Engelfield Green.

Students are becoming increasingly worried as crimes in Egham are becoming more apparent.

Melanie Anzarouth, a third year student said: “Egham is getting scarier. First the knife point robbery, now this unexplained death. Is this Egham’s transition into becoming a ghetto?”

Simona Santos Castagno, a geography student, said: “It is such a shame that he was there for other people, but no one was there for him in his time of need.”

At this early stage of inquiry, a police spokesperson said: “The death is being treated as unexplained but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding it.”

In the meantime, the police have “prepared a file, and have now passed it to the coroner.”
