Nottingham is the eighth most burgled city in the UK

Who’s surprised?

Nottingham has made it onto the list of the top ten most burgled cities in the UK.

Notts was ranked in a depressing eighth place, according to the list compiled by home security company Canary.

Disappointingly, Southampton and Glasgow both fared better on the list than us, but Newcastle was by far the worst city for burglaries, with Brighton and Leeds not far behind.

Shockingly London didn’t come at the top of the list, coming in just ahead of Notts at number seven.

  1. Newcastle
  2. Brighton
  3. Leeds
  4. Manchester
  5. Edinburgh
  6. Liverpool
  7. London
  8. Nottingham
  9. Southampton
  10. Glasgow

Despite having greatly improved since our 2006 position as the top city for burglaries, it is disappointing news to hear that we are still in the top ten.

Fourth year Nottingham student, Tom Shuttleworth, who felt particularly passionate about this topic, said: “If I can’t feel safe in my own house then what kind home is that.”

This comes after a third year’s precious laptop went missing last week, while a second year’s £2,700 motorbike was stolen from campus.
