UCL’s quality of teaching is one of the worst in the U.K, according to Good University Guide
It was ranked the eighth worst in the country
The Good University Guide has rated UCL one of the worst universities in the country for teaching quality.
Although UCL came 6th overall and performed very well in terms of graduate prospects and quality of research, the university’s teaching quality was ranked the eighth worst in the country.
Based on the 2016 National Student Survey, universities are ranked based on the number of positive responses students gave to the quality of university teaching.
Students were asked questions to do with how satisfied they felt with the course as well as the usefulness of lectures and seminars.
Although 75.5 per cent of UCL students who participated in the survey said that the teaching quality was good, nearly a quarter of students admitted they were not satisfied with the standard of teaching at UCL.
Universities with the poorest teaching quality were nearly all from London. Out of the bottom ten, seven universities were based inside the M25 with LSE voted the worst in the country, Imperial in fifth and King’s in sixth.
However, UCL was still ranked the 6th best university based on a very high quality of research as well as strong graduate prospects, with 89 per cent of students leaving the university with a 2:1 or a first.
