Check out the volleyball girls ready to knock King’s out

They’re set to serve up some serious competition

Tomorrow, Sunday 6th March, the UCL men’s and women’s volleyball teams will be battling King’s College London for this year’s Varsity series.

The UCL women’s volleyball team smashed King’s last year with an easy 2-0 win, but expects that this year King’s will put up more of a fight. The team even features players who have competed on a national level in the US, Italy, Greece and England.

Buy tickets here for just £5 and head up to the University of East London where the matches will be played to show your support for UCL. And if you’d rather celebrate Mother’s Day, just bring your mum along for £7. The tickets will also be for netball and basketball so you’ll be set up for a full day of sporting victories (for UCL, not King’s).

We asked the captain, Antonella Palmese, to introduce us to the team.

Antonella Palmese, Team Captain

“Antonella can play none and every position. Don’t keep her off the sand for more than a week. She’s very good at annoying fellow team member Magdalena Plotczyk.”

Camilla Tinari, Outside

“Italian biologist turned geographer, survivor of the New Jersey outback exploration and of the recent deployment in the cloud-bolted, rainy corner of sort of Europe. She has only has one shoulder left, but keeps fighting. And sending horrible selfies.”

Alexia Xanthaki, Outside

“The team’s braid expert. All respectable volleyball teams have one. Also, just engaged to Camilla Tinari.”

Magdalena Plotczyk, Middle

“Also known as Edward Scissorhands, Magdalena is hot. Despite her collection of horrible sunglasses.”

Anna Tsoumi, Libero

“Anna would sell her soul to be an outside forever. She is working on a team project at UCL. Every single day. And night.”

Yvette Talas, Middle

“She is tall. That’s all you need to know about her.

Diana Iovanel, Opposite

“Diana has the fastest, volleyball smashing left arm you’ll ever see. Sometimes she entertains the team with some breathtaking dance moves. The team will make sure she does that at Varsity too.”

Danae Filioti, Outside

“They were so jealous of Danae’s body that they tried to destroy her ankle. She can be found on flyers sometimes.”
