All London public transport will be free all night on New Year’s Eve

Pratiksha VekariaGenerous TfL bosses have announced that all public transport in London will again be free on New Year’s Eve.
Boris announced the scheme, which will be funded by search engine Kayak.com, and includes tube, overground, DLR, TFL rail, trams (do they exist?!) and buses between 11.45pm on 31st December and 4.30am on 1st January.
Masters student Naya said: “It’ll be way more efficient than taking the car, you run less of a risk of spending new years in the tube than the car and cab companies can’t extort you. But it seems unglamorous.”
Bring on the night tube
TfL have offered free travel at New Year since 2001, but last year they were forced to foot the bill themselves after long-term sponsors Dieageo ended their three year deal.
Sergiu, final year adds: “Money saved on tube equals money spent on booze.” Wise words.
Meanwhile, speaking to the Evening Standard, Graeme Craig, director of commercial development at TfL, said: “Our partnership with kayak.co.uk will ensure that revellers will be able to welcome in the New Year knowing that they will be able to get home safely and for free.
“We look forward to welcoming everyone to London’s celebrations and encourage customers to plan their journeys in advance so that they are aware of all their travel options.”
