Get ready: Movember is back in Liverpool
Can’t wait to see some more questionable facial hair in the SJ
Every year, the UoL sports societies pull it out of the bag when it comes to raising money for Movember, from raising over £43,000 in 2020 and £19,000 in 2021.
Putting questionable facial hair aside, the Movember charity helps people who have been diagnosed with prostate and testicular cancer and men who are struggling with their mental health. Looking at statistics, one in eight men in the UK will get diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime and data from the Mental Health Foundation in 2021 found that one in eight men will experience mental health issues in their life. Following the impacts of Covid-19 and the current cost of living crisis, it is more vital than ever that we open up the conversation about mental health and help fund men’s health projects.
Whilst it may be easy to wince at the array of moustaches lining the streets of Smithdown, ranging from all-out seventies pornstaches to a few solitary strands of hair that look reminiscent of a year eight boy, remember that it’s all for a great cause!
In support of Movember, Team Sport Liverpool announced that they will be running drop in mental health and well-being advice sessions in the UoL campus sports centre, this will be running every Wednesday throughout the month from 2-3pm.
Alongside this, UoL sports teams from cricket, to football to rugby are all working to raise money for Movember, whilst keeping us all up to date with their members moustache progress or lack there of. You can find out all the information about what each individual team is doing by keeping up to date with their Instagram pages.
