Armed Police swarmed a house on Ferndale yesterday morning

They were responding to a gun threat

Yesterday morning saw chaos on Ferndale after a man threatened another man with a gun at a party, leading to armed police swarming the area.

Officers responded to reports that a man had been assaulted and threatened with a gun. Witnessses said police arrived in several 4×4 cars and pointed their guns at the house.

The armed response teams found a man with cuts and bruising to his face, who said he was at a party with his girlfriend when an argument began and he was threatened.

Police forcefully entered the house and arrested two men, 34 and 30 years old, seizing a decommissioned shot gun and two BB guns.

A neighbour said that a woman was also escorted out of the house by armed officers, and that the police left all of the windows and doors open before a scientific support van arrived to investigate.

They continued, “I went out for a walk this morning but when I came back the whole road was blocked off. There were armed police and a few vans and they were all pointing at one house.

“It caught me by surprise really, it’s not something you see every day. After a while they brought a woman out of the house.

“The police stayed there with scientific support for ages and they all wore face masks.

“The windows were wide open and so were the doors.”

A police spokesman stated: “The two arrested men were taken to separate police stations where they were questioned by detectives and released pending further inquiries.”
