The Leeds RAG Fashion Show is one of the biggest events in the Leeds Uni calendar – so we spoke to some of this year’s models to find out about the casting process, what they think the secret theme is and whether there’s more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking.

Sarah, postgrad, Dentistry

What do you think the theme is going to be?

“I really want it to be Disney theme. Ideally I’d be Belle from Beauty and the Beast”

Is there more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking?

“Definitely – good teeth are a plus point.”

How was the casting?

“Castings were good. I signed up because I saw a poster in the toilets on my Halloween night out.”

What made you sign up?

“At my last Uni I was quite active in sports, so I wanted to do something here and I’ve never done anything like this before.”

Who is your style inspiration?:

“Millie Macintosh, Rosie Fortescue – I’m a bit of an MIC fan”

Josh, second year, Law

What do you think the theme is going to be?

“James Bond – can you even fashion James Bond though?”

Is there more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking?

“You’re asking the wrong person. But yeah, good sense of humour and intelligence are important.”

Have you put that you’re a model in your Tinder Bio?

“I don’t have Tinder.”

How were the castings?

“Yeah pretty good. I had to bust a move on the catwalk, channel my inner Austin Powers.”

Who is your fashion inspiration?

“I don’t really have one. I guess Will Smith – when he goes to the Oscars he looks pretty cool, not in The Fresh Prince.”

Why did you sign up?:

“I just thought why not? And I’m a RAG member anyway.”

Deya, third year, Zoology

What do you think the theme is going to be?

“A ’60s theme would be pretty cool.”

Is there more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking?

“Yes, everything more – better grammar too.”

Have you put that you’re a model on Tinder?

“I deleted Tinder – it took up too much data.”

How were castings?

“They were fun, but I embarrassed myself. I was ambitious about the temperature and came in a vest.

“I realised at the end of the castings that my nipples were like bullets the whole time – I think I’m referred to as boob girl.”

Do you fancy any of the other models?

“Probably everyone.”

Why did you sign up?

“It’s my last year so I wanted to do something I won’t be able to do easily after I’ve finished uni – like walk in a fashion show.”

Grace, second year, Theatre and Performance

What do you think the theme is going to be?

“Anything with sparkles. I liked sparkles before they were edgy.”

Is there more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking?

“Yeah, but it’s a bonus if the person you fancy is really hot.”

Have you put that you’re a model on Tinder?

“I’m not single.”

How were the castings?:

“Well I have problems with my feet. Plus me and Deya were both a bit intimidated by the girl walking before us.

“I also had to pick an emotion out of a hat and I got lonely. No one really knew what I was doing which was shit because I’m a Theatre and Performance student.”

Why did you sign up?:

“To make my mum proud – and it’s for charity. I just did a Dryathlon so want to carry on helping charities.”

Charlene, first year, Management and Marketing

What do you think the theme is going to be?

“Maybe a jungle theme?”

Is there more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking?

“Yes, of course. Personality and humour are really important.”

How was the casting?

“I was really nervous – I picked the word sassy and I’m so not sassy.”

Is this your first fashion show?

“Not my first fashion show. I’ve had some experience before, but I’m still very nervous.”

Why did you sign up?:

“My friend made me – we went together and tried out. She didn’t get in though. It’s not awkward, she’s really happy for me.”
