Jamie Laing to quit showbiz and return to Leeds University to teach broadcast journalism

A leaked email revealed that Jamie will be moving back north to lecture on podcasting and media

The University of Leeds has confirmed that TV personality and podcaster, Jamie Laing, will return to campus to lecture in broadcast journalism.

In a leaked email sent to staff, the university explained that the Made in Chelsea star will be moving back up north to teach on the Journalism BA course for the start of the new academic year in September.

Jamie, who studied theatre and performance at Leeds Uni for his undergraduate degree, told The Tab Leeds that he was approached by the university shortly after being chosen as Jordan North’s replacement for BBC Radio 1’s Going Home show.

On his reasons for leaving his life in the big smoke, Jamie told The Tab Leeds: “Turning 35 was kind of crisis point in my life where I thought, ‘what am I doing?’. I’ve married to the girl of my dreams, I’ve stripped off and mounted a horse for my sweet company, Candy Kittens, and I’ve started another banging new podcast. But I still feel like I need to achieve more.”

Jamie will also host a welcome party at Fruity during Freshers’ Week, although the date of the event has not yet been confirmed.

Speaking about what he can teach the future journalism stars of today he said: “How to become Jamie Laing! No, I’m joking. I want to bring the party to the course. My inner fresher lives on.”

April, a second year Journalism student at the University of Leeds said that she was “insanely excited” for Jamie to return to Leeds. She said: “I don’t care how posh he is, he’s an honorary northerner at this point. He loves to brag about how cool Leeds is at every possible opportunity on his podcasts so I’m totally not surprised he’s coming back to relive the glory days.”

When asked what he’s most excited about in his big move to Leeds, Jamie said: “The vibes. Leeds’ folk are so much cooler than people in London and I’m ready to get back to it. Sophie might divorce me, but I think it’s finally time I grow myself a bloody great blonde mullet.”

You should probably check the date, you April fools!
