Celebrate pancake day in style by flipping some for charity

On Shrove Tuesday ( 4th March) Princesshay are proud to host the inaugural World Pancake Racing Championships.

The championship will be run by Princess Hay and Wacky Nation, an event management company. They aim to raise funds for Princesshay’s 2014 charity of the year, ‘Dream-A-Way’.

Locals, organisations and local businesses are invited to demonstrate their flipping skills by entering a team of between two and four members.

It almost looks like ‘Wacky Races’

The pancake race will take place during lunch time with the first heats kicking off at 12.30pm. Prizes include a £100 Princesshay Gift Card and a trophy awarded to the winner. Presentations are expected to take place at 1.15pm.

The relay race consists of each team member sprinting along a short course before having to flip a pancake three times.  However, to make it fair, officials will be closely watching that the flipping is done properly.

Participants will need a mixture of skill, agility and speed to prove successful.

It looks like running shoes are a pre-requisite

Entry costs just £30 per team and there will be prizes for first, second and third place, plus a prize for the team that raises the most sponsorship. Teams have the added bonus of eating their pancake at the end of the course if it isn’t stuck to the pavement.

In order to avoid disappointment, ensure you apply early as there are only twenty places available.

Dream-A-Way is a charity based in Exeter that provides holiday grants for disabled and seriously ill people in Devon, Cornwall and the Scilly Isles.

Even freshers can get involved

Sall Raynes from Wacky Nation said: “This is a fantastic excuse to step out of the office for some sporting fun and even earn some spectacular publicity for your company. After all, where else can you become a World Champion during your lunch break?”

Wayne Pearce, Centre Director, said: “This event is a great way to raise funds for a very worthy cause, our charity of the year, Dream-A-Way.

“We’ll be entering our own team and look forward to seeing other Exeter businesses getting involved as well.”
