A new Wetherspoons ‘superpub’ is soon to be opening on Nicolson Street
This is not a drill
The City of Edinburgh Council have recently confirmed that a new Wetherspoons will be opening on Nicolson Street.
To make space for the new "superpub", a large-scale renovation of Empire Bingo will be occurring. The renovation is set to cost £1.5 million, as they plan on converting into a two-storey spoons.
This new location will be adding to the other six Wetherspoons that are already open in Edinburgh, with favourites like Standing Order and Caley Picture House. The new spoons will cover an area of more than 4000 square foot and creating over fifty new jobs.
David Bol, a local democracy reporter took to Twitter and confirmed planning permission.
It looks like Edinburgh is set for a new Wetherspoon pub after plans for a former bingo hall in the city centre passed a licensing hurdle. Police urged cllrs to refuse the application. The proposals received planning permission at the third attempt.

There is currently no fixed opening date, but one thing is for sure – it's going to be a lot harder to study knowing that pints, pitchers and pink gin and tonics, are just a five minute walk away from George Square.
