SEXUAL ASSAULT OPPOSITE CAV

Woman sexually assaulted near popular student nightclub

A woman was last night sexually assaulted by a man on Dunbar Street.

The police have now cordoned off the street, Hopetoun court and two other areas near communal bins whilst investigations are underway.

The attack, which happened at around 11pm on Sunday, raises concerns for the safety of students as the incident took place just a stones-throw away from the popular nightclub ‘Cav’, which on their website boasts about being “Edinburgh’s Biggest Sunday Night”.

The police have asked for anyone with information regarding the attack to contact them on 101.

Many students live in, or near, Tollcross which is near the Meadows. The Meadows itself has been the place of several attacks or assaults. In 2012 a man and a woman robbed 12 people with an imitation gun.

Although this most recent attack is much more serious than the use of an imitation gun, it does reinforce the dangers of travelling alone in these areas at night, something many students will do on a regular basis.
