Tab Tries: Shake a Weight

Pros and Cons of the latest innovation for toning

This innovation in gym equipment is effectively a weight you can shake… to shake your extra weight…

But actually seeing results involves a considerable weight. Sorry, wait.

The Box Claims:
‘Revolutionary new way to shape and tone arms’
‘Work out your upper body in just 6 minutes’
‘Up to 300% more effective than traditional weights’
Alex Gerrard uses it everyday and her ‘arms have never looked so good – it really works!’

(Minor) Benefits:
Increases blood flow, which can help with stretching, recovery, and mild forms of toning.

It’s pink, so it makes exercise come in a less scary form.

Can be done sitting at home watching Made in Chelsea, thus avoiding ridicule from gymmers who take weights seriously.

It’s a fun stocking filler.

Negatives:
Would perhaps be more effective with a higher weight, as they currently only manufacture them as 1.2kg

Neglects your legs, core, back and glutes.

I’ve done it for 6 minutes a day for a month and I haven’t seen even a SLIGHT improvement… Although could have been counteracted by the amount of Library Café cookies I’m consuming.

If you put your face too close to it, you can knock yourself out. Or cause bruising. (Tried and tested)

To conclude, this piece of equipment is just a bit of fun. Nothing more.

The box says ‘As Seen on TV’ and I wonder if its referring to South Park, which parodies the Shake a Weight workout.. This particular episode in fact prompted one of my, more simple-minded, friends to ask me if it’s true that ‘it blows its load all over your face when you’re done’.

It doesn’t.
