Wales hosted Italy just 4 weeks ago

The Ireland v Italy men’s and women’s Six Nations games that were being held in Dublin on 7th and 8th March have been postponed, over fears of coronavirus.

Over the weekend, the coronavirus has caused 11 deaths in Italy and over 300 people have been tested positive for the virus. In total, 11 towns have been placed under lockdown.

The severity of Italy’s situation urged the Irish Health Minister, Simon Harris, to say the games should not go ahead.

The Minister met with IRFU this morning and a decision has been made to postpone the scheduled games.

IRFU issued a statement saying: “At the outset, we made it clear that the IRFU was supportive of the governments’ need to protect public health in relation to the coronavirus”.

Wales hosted their game with Italy in the Principality Stadium on 1st February, just four weeks ago.

It remains unclear when the games will be rescheduled.
