Tab 10: What’s On This Week

Roller derbies, horse meat discos and Shakespearean opera: this week’s top picks

Monday

RICHARD III @ TOBACCO FACTORY THEATRE

You know that bloke who was found under a car park a few weeks back? Somewhat conveniently the Tobacco Factory are telling Shakespeare’s version of his life. It’s like they knew…

Arts Students, you have nothing better to do, so go and watch this. Ends 30th March.

BRISTOL UNI CORIBAND @ THE CORONATION TAP

Our very own Bristol University Big Band Society (Hornstars/BUJO) are coming to the Cori Tap to entertain us with a mix of Funk, Jazz and Swing. Proclaiming to be ‘the stars of tomorrow’ how could you not resist? Oh, and entry doesn’t cost a penny.

‘ARISTOPHANES’ KNIGHTS’ @ LADY WINDSOR THEATRE (MR5C)

Bristol’s Classics and Ancient History Society have come together to bring you this fantastic bawdy, fast-paced comedy focusing on the fickleness of people and fecklessness of politicians who represent them.

Tickets are £3 and doors open at 7.30 on Monday and Tuesday. For all you lovers of the ancient world – it’s not to be missed!

Tuesday

CHVRCHES @ THEKLA

Love electro-pop? Love threesomes? Love Glasgow? CHVRCHES are said to fall somewhere between Robyn and The Knife, so if that sounds like your kinda thing, get on down to Bristol’s favourite Boat Club.

HEROL GRAHAM LECTURE @ LT1, WOODLAND ROAD

‘Look After Your Mate’ is a lecture by Herol Graham, a celebrated British boxing champion. The first of three events to link sport and mental health, Herol Graham will talk about his experiences of depression. Lecture starts at 6pm.

Wednesday

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM @ WINSTON THEATRE

From 27th February to the 2nd March BUOS are putting on their production of Benjamin Britten’s Operatic version of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream.’ Some good escapism from a less than summery late February (serious, when was the last time it was warm?)

Thursday

RIOT ACTS @ KEBELE COMMUNITY CO-OP

Celebrating LGBT History Month, Bristol Queer Café is showing a documentary about the multi-faceted lives of trans-gender and gender variant musicians from a first-hand perspective. It’s free!

Friday

CIRQUE DU SOUL @ EXCHANGE

Roll up, roll up…the circus is back in town! With tickets from £6, Cirque Du Soul are hosting a Horse Meat Disco at the Exchange. This quartet have regularly played at Glastonbury, Bestival, Lovebox and a host of other international venues. Not to be missed! Tickets: £6 / £8 / £10

Saturday

SYMPHONIA SPRING CONCERT @ VICTORIA ROOMS

ROLLER DERBY DOUBLE HEADER @ WISE CAMPUS

So apparently this is a thing. People fighting each other on roller skates while trying to lap one another on a circuit.  Bristol’s Harlots A and B are apparently fighting it out this week with Leeds and Peterborough’s Mean Valley . Even if you’re not, we’re intrigued.
