Brummies become best boozers in Blighty

Raise your glass, as Birmingham students are officially the biggest boozers in the UK.

The survey, conducted by MyVoucherCodes, found the lash-happy students of Birmingham spend an average of £68 a week on alcohol.

The score narrowly beats that of Northern rivals Manchester (who spend an average of £63.23) and eclipses London (£61.10), despite the fact you probably need a mortgage to purchase a double vodka coke in the capital.

Mark Pearson, MyVoucherCodes chairman, said: “We’re all aware of the heavy partying that goes on at universities across the UK, but it’s important for students to try and keep things under control financially.

“Students obviously want to have a good time, but making sure you spend within your limits is vital.

“Whilst it may be fun at the time, in the long run there is plenty of time for nights out when you’ve graduated.”
