Meet Miss Brighton finalist and charity girl Nicole

If she wins she can keep the crown

While you are recovering from your Yoko’s hangover, first year Equine Science student Nicole Erdem spends her free time raising money for brain tumour charity and casting for Miss Brighton

With the contest’s finale coming up in June, Nicole has only little time to prepare for the competition where she has to look more beautiful and give smarter answers than 19 other girls her age. We had a chat with the Miss Brighton finalist 2016 about the contest and her charitable work.

“This is my first beauty contest that I have taken part of. It has been something that I have been interested in doing, but I have never really had the opportunity to do so,” said the Aber fresher.

Nicole explained that the first round to the Miss Brighton casting is tough, but not overly spectacular. She told us: “To end up in the final I had to go for a casting. When I turned up I had to fill in an application with personal details and write about myself.”

An interview and photo shoot followed. The final will be much more competitive, with the finalists having to model in black dress and beachwear, amongst other tasks.

Now the first year works hard to support Amanda’s Angels as part of the contest. Amanda’s Angels is a charity organisation with the aim to combat brain tumours.

The price

Nicole told us:”I am raising money for this charity because it was the chosen charity for this years’ Miss Brighton competition.” Her online just giving page is still in the fledging stage, but the finalist is hopeful and enthusiastic.

“I am hoping that I hit my £200 target bringing my total up to £300. The money will then go towards vital funds into researching brain cancer.”

Whilst Miss contests are still new and exciting for the Aber fresher, Nicole has grown up working for charity and trying to make a change.

She said: “I have had involvement with charities in the past. My nan set up a charity for helping young girls in Africa who have been sexually abused. We raised enough money to support a few girls and the children that they have had from the incident, so charity work isn’t new for me and is something I enjoy to do and help to make a positive change.”

In the future Nicole hopes to win Miss Brighton with the help of her sponsor, Pier Recruitment on 5 June and go on to competing for the Miss Great Britain crown. Either way, however, she intends to continue her charitable work.
