Non-believer who died for 50 minutes vividly describes what her encounter with God was like

‘I got to sit in his lap, I got to go with him to work’

A woman who, despite not being a believer herself, has said she had an encounter with God when she died for a whole 50 minutes.

Riley Courtright actually technically died twice within 18 months, after being diagnosed with vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS). The condition can weaken the body’s connective tissues, which support skin, joints, blood vessels, and organs. It often causes chronic pain and fatigue, and can cause serious internal bleeding and organ problems.

Riley was a lifelong atheist, and over the course of 18 months, died twice. The first time was at home after being sent away by doctors with no further options, and the second time was in hospital, where she and her husband had moved so she could spend her final days there.

Riley has since spoken out about her experiences with death, and what she claims happened to her. She described death as “funny” because it “happens all at once”. However, her most interesting experience with the afterlife was when she claimed to have died for the second time.

“God came to my rescue,” Riley said on the Round Trip Death podcast. “He replaced my heart and my lungs. He told me that… I smelled, tasted and saw God. He cured me. I still have a lot of physiotherapy, sure. But when I died and came back to life it was like overnight.”

She went on describe that when she died she woke up [in Heaven] to music, a “symphony of orchestras together” and said “so many of the instruments were instruments we don’t have on Earth.”

She added: “When I died, I instantly shot up to God.” Riley said during the encounter she sat on God’s lap, hugged him, and went on to be “healed” by him.

“There was no mistaking that’s where I was,” she said. “He is bigger than the cosmos. I got to wrap my arms around his neck. I got to sit in his lap. I got to play by his ankles. I got to go with him to work.” She added: “It felt like I got to watch him expand the universe. I got to watch him build the next Earth that we’re all going to be on.”

Riley claimed that God “explained” the universe to her, and said when you go to Heaven you “get every bit of information that’s ever existed in the universe all at once.”

After her experience with death, Riley said she returned to the Earth healed, and claimed there was “nothing wrong” with her organs anymore. She felt hungry, but that was about all. She also claims doctors have told her she appears healthy now.
