It’s official: The Leeds Tab is looking for new writers and content creators!

Are you a Leeds student with ambitions of becoming a journalist or social media content creator? Or are you not sure what you want to do, and want a chance to boost your CV and gain a platform to show off your work?

If you answered yes to either of these, you’re in the right place, because the Leeds Tab wants to hear from you! It’s that time of year again, and we are officially recruiting new students to join the team for the 2026/7 academic year.

What is the Leeds Tab?

The Tab is one of the biggest youth media sites in Britain, covering over 30 uni cities. Alumni have gone on to work for huge names in the media industry including Vogue, Grazia and the BBC.

The Leeds team keeps students in the city up to date with news, guides, recommendations and more. We’re made up of writers and content creators from all Leeds universities, working together to maintain a steady stream of articles and content for our fellow students to enjoy.

What will I be doing?

If you join us as a writer, you’ll be covering all things Leeds. Whether it’s a news article delving into the latest thing campus is buzzing about, or a fun feature ranking your favourite sweet treat spots in Hyde Park, you’ll have a huge amount of creative freedom to decide what you want to write about.

If you’re struggling for inspiration, our editors periodically send out commissions and article ideas on the WhatsApp group for writers to claim. Once articles are written, they’re edited not just by us, but by an assistant editor at The Tab HQ in London too. This means that you’ll be learning from professionals in the journalism field.

If you join us as a content creator, you’ll be making whatever type of social media content takes your fancy. This could be an aesthetically appealing Instagram grid post showing students your favourite study spots on campus, or a vox pop where you go around campus and interview students about their outfits of the day. It’s really up to you!

And, if you’re interested in both writing and content creation, that’s even better. You can do as much or as little of each role as you’d like.

How much do I have to write/create?

Good news: there’s absolutely no minimum amount of articles or content you need to produce for us. We understand that when you’re at university, fitting other commitments around your studies can be stressful (we’re all students ourselves, after all). That’s why joining The Tab is completely flexible and it’s up to you how much of a workload you take on.

Whether you write articles every week, or just make a fun TikTok now and again, we’d love to have you as part of our team. Either way, it’s something to brag to your connections on LinkedIn about.

How do I join?

Joining the Leeds Tab couldn’t be easier. There’s no application process and anybody from any university in Leeds is welcome. All you have to do is show up to our open meeting, which we will be holding at Dry Dock on Monday the 28th September at 6pm.

At the meeting, the editorial team will be on hand to answer any questions and explain more about how The Tab works. If you’re joining us as a writer, we’ll also get you set up on WordPress, the content management system we use to publish articles. From there, you’re officially a member of the team!
