This quiz uses science to reveal your ideal ‘type’, but the results are so wild there’s backlash

Everyone on Twitter is losing their minds over a “who attracts you” survey that reveals your ideal type using the power of science.

We’ve heard time and time again that everyone has a “type”, but it’s obviously not an exact science. There are always outliers, and our tastes are constantly changing.

Hoping to delve deeper into the thought patterns behind attraction, psychology researcher Spencer Greenberg is carrying out a study. To get his dataset, he’s created a very in-depth quiz that has since gone viral.

Hosted on the Guidedtrack platform under the title the Who Attracts You, the quiz takes around 10 minutes to complete.

“At the end of the study you’ll have the option (if you choose) to see a report showing you your primary ‘type’ and auxiliary ‘types’ that you seem to be most attracted to, as well as other interesting analyses about your attraction!” the page reads.

“The study takes about 10 minutes. For the integrity of our scientific data, it’s critical that you give honest answers. By participating in this study, you are consenting to having your completely anonymised responses used for research, data analysis, prediction, and publication purposes. This study has no known risks, other than the possibility of learning things about your attraction that might surprise you or make you uncomfortable.”

To start with, the quiz asks you a bunch of questions about your dating habits, the value you place on a person’s looks, sexual orientation, your location, your age, and the age ranges of your ideal matches.

Then, you get shown a boatload of pictures of people whom you have to say whether you’re attracted to. It’s a sliding scale, from “Very unattractive romantically to me – would not go on date” to “Very attractive romantically to me – would go on date.”

At the end, you’re given a comprehensive report about your ideal type. It shows you four pictures of that type alongside your “auxiliary” types. On page two, you get a breakdown of the stats.

For instance, mine reads: “Of the people we showed you, you said you’d be up for a date with 32 per cent of them. Compared with other people who date the same gender you do, that makes you more selective than 64 per cent of them.”

The results also highlight how “mainstream” your tastes are, whilst also showcasing your “hidden gems” and “unpopular opinions” based on the larger dataset.

It’s quite fun, I have to say, but people can’t seem to agree on the quiz.

“Well this was an interesting study to be part of! I’m more picky than 94 per cent of people, too,” one person said.

Another wrote: “What’s funny is that the majority of suitors I attract are what we on Tumblr used to call Blue Eyes White Dragons — white dudes rebelling against their parents, lol. But these align closely with my dating history.”

Others are not so happy, with one writing: “Wow, I like androgynous women? You’re telling me this for the first time.”

Though it’s great news for the study, the quiz has become so popular that the website has crashed from the traffic.

“And if our study didn’t load for you, I’m sorry!! This went viral, and we got so much traffic it tipped our server over. Our engineers are hard at work getting it working again,” Spencer Greenberg wrote on Twitter.
