Before MAFS UK 2025, groom Steven went through just as much as what we’re seeing on the show now. As the experiment kicked off, it looked as though he and Nelly were one of the strongest matches. But now, chaos has followed.

So, you might be wondering what Steven is like outside of the experiment, and before all of its intensity. It turns out, he’s really had a lot going on in life. From exes speaking out about him, to juggling loads of jobs.

Steven is 34, and from Essex

MAFS groom Steven is 34, and from Essex. Ahead of the show, he had been single for over a year. Steven is a father of two, and said prior to the experiment has always focussed on raising his children and building his career.

But now, Steven said he is ready to find the love of his life. He described himself as looking for someone with personality, who’s bubbly and confident–and importantly–someone who is not afraid to challenge him and keep him on his toes.

As he joined the cast of MAFS, it was said Steven worked as an investment banker, but that really only touches the surface. Steven also played football professionally, albeit it quite a few years ago. He was the youth team captain at Ebbsfeet United, then was signed up for the first team. He’s since worked as a football coach.

As well as this, Steven has dabbled in writing and acting in his time. Yes, all this! He was actually unemployed for around five months whilst MAFS was filming. It kind of sounds like he might have needed a break, to be fair.

He was attacked and was left severely injured, and it changed the course of his life

Steven’s football career was brutally cut short, when he was attacked on a night out. In his early 20s, nine men kicked and punched him over a past college dispute. Steven was then forced to wear a face mask for six months, and during that time did not want to leave the house. He has since undergone extensive reconstructive surgery.

Steven suffered a fractured cheekbone, shattered teeth and a broken nose after the attack. He’s been left scarred for life.

Steven told the Daily Mail: “My positive outlook, why I am the way I am today, the way I see the world… is because of that attack. At first it was like I’ve got scars on my face people are going to see me a little bit differently. But now I see them as the reason I am who I am. It’s character building. It shows that I’ve won, and they lost.”

We all know he apparently hooked up with a celeb, but he’s also had drama with another ex too

During the show, Steven was accused of being on dating app Raya, and hooking up with a “Z list” celeb, just two weeks before the experiment. He seemed to think there was no problem with that, despite Nelly questioning if he was all-in on the experiment, giving the application process would have been very much over by this time.

On top of that, since the show has been airing, Steven has found himself in further hot water with an ex. His ex-girlfriend, lifestyle influencer Melissa Stacey, has exposed all the details of their breakup in a three-part TikTok series. She claimed he “disappeared” on her to go on the show, and has since claimed he came crawling back after. Yikes.

“He seemed like the nicest guy, he seemed like a great dad, I genuinely fell for this guy,” she said. “This guy told me that he loved me and that he saw a future with me. We rarely went two or three days without seeing each other.”

She then claimed he ghosted her, and told her he’d been filming for a Netflix drama in Greece. They were still chatting and dating a bit she has claimed, but then ended things. Melissa then found out it had been MAFS he was filming for.

She claimed she immediately reached out to him over Instagram but was blocked. The influencer then alleged Steven reached out to her over text. They went back and forth over text screenshots shared by Melissa, where some big bombs were dropped, including a message apparently from Steven that said: “When you see the person they’ve put me with, it will all make sense.”

Steven has responded to Melissa’s claims, and told The Tab: “Melissa is a lovely girl and yes we dated for a couple of months, but ultimately things did not progress into anything official as I didn’t see a future in us. I then went onto the show to find a wife.”
