From football to finance: The MAFS UK groom Steven’s many jobs, thoroughly investigated

He didn’t really have a job while he was on MAFS

MAFS UK 2025 has barely kicked off, but Steven Springett has already solidified himself as a main character. We keep hearing about how he’s a finance bro and a footballer, with little other context. So, here is a very thorough investigation into what Steven’s various jobs really are. We dug deep into the MAFS UK groom Steven’s footballer era, what finance jobs he’s had, and his alleged actor past.

Yes, Steven was once a professional footballer

Er, apparently Steven grew up dreaming of being a F1 driver for Ferrari. He explained on his Instagram story: “Football was just in the DNA, so I couldn’t ignore that”.

He did play football professionally… 14 years ago. Steven was the youth team captain at Ebbsfeet United Football Club, then was signed up for the first team. However, this didn’t last very long. At aged 19, he was attacked on his way back from a nightclub. His injuries were so bad that he couldn’t take his football career further.

Steven did not actually have a job during MAFS

He finished at his last job in December 2024, then was “unemployed” (his words, not mine) for about five months. MAFS UK 2025 was filmed during this time.

The show describes Steven as an “investment banking manager”. His own LinkedIn shows he was a manager within a bank, as opposite to managing the investments, if that makes sense.

After Steven’s football career finished, he became an administrator at Financial Ombudsman Service. Steven worked his way up to being a team manager in the customer help department. Steven had did various contract jobs in customer service teams at financial services companies before he filmed MAFS UK. He’s now a temp back at Financial Ombudsman Service.

Apparently he does acting?!

Steven’s profile on the Channel 4 website says: “Cheeky Essex groom Steven is a dab hand in writing, acting and playing football.”

He was into acting in his teens. He did drama GCSE. Steven claimed in an interview for Epsom football club: “No one really knows until now that I was offered a place at RADA [the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art] to go on an acting course when I was 14 and then chose to keep playing football – so who knows perhaps I could have won an Oscar at some point in my career.”

Steven’s ex romantic acquaintance Melissa Stacey says that when he vanished to film MAFS, his excuse was that he was acting in a Netflix show. Really. She shared screenshots that seem to show Steven saying he’d disappeared because he was a recurring extra on a TV drama series for Netflix, that’s set in Greece, yet was filmed in America, and starred Sheridan Smith, and required all cast members to not use their phones or leave their rooms (???).

It appears this was just a story, as he couldn’t reveal he was on MAFS. I’m afraid the American-Grecian Sheridan Smith drama won’t be dropping on Netflix anytime soon.

I have scraped and scraped the internet, and I can’t actually find any evidence for what he’s actually acted in recently. Er, maybe he’s just doing amateur stuff for fun, and is biding his time for a big comeback?

As for the writing – this appears to be a hobby, not a side hustle. The only published written works I can find are his lengthy LinkedIn posts and his extensive tweets on the premier league transfer season.

He’s also been a football coach

Steven is still involved with football, although he’s definitely not a pro player.

He had a role as First Team Manager role at Epsom & Ewell FC until about a year ago. In July, he signed up for the AFC Greenwich Borough Vets.

Two of his brothers and two of his nephews are also super into football. His brother Paul is the chairman of Erith & Belvedere Football Club. Plus, he seems to know Ronnie Vint – the Love Islander whose day job is footballing. Or they follow each other on Instagram, anyway.
