MAFS UK groom Steven’s football career ended after he was attacked on a night out

His injuries were so bad that he had to find a different job

Yes, the MAFS UK groom Steven Springett used to be a football player. But a “horrific” incident when he was a 19-year-old student cut his professional career short.

So, over a decade before he was cast in MAFS UK, Steven played football for Ebbsfleet United. The club won the FA Trophy while he was there. When he 19, he was attacked by a group of men on his way home from a club. Steven believes this happened because of “a two-year vendetta” that started when he was a student at Meopham Sports College. Apparently one of his attackers threw forks at him in the dining hall. He’d disagreed with one of them over a girl.

Steven told the Daily Mail that remembers being “turned into different punches”. He broke his nose and his right cheekbone, and harmed his teeth. One attacker was sentenced to prison for 1o months.

“For the first six months I was in a horrible place, because I didn’t want to go out,” Steven explained, “I had to wear a face mask. When they started healing, they went purple, and I could see people looking at me thinking, ‘Urgh, put the mask back on.'”

Steven had lots of reconstructive surgery on his face. His injuries were so bad that he had to stop playing football professionally.

Steven got a job at Financial Ombudsman Service, then worked his way up to being a team manager in the customer help department. He’s been a coach and a manager at Epsom & Ewell Football Club. His three brothers and his nephews are also super into the sport, and often play football together. Nawww.

He told the Daily Mail: “My positive outlook, why I am the way I am today, the way I see the world… is because of that attack. At first it was like I’ve got scars on my face people are going to see me a little bit differently. But now I see them as the reason I am who I am. It’s character building. It shows that I’ve won, and they lost.”

Steven is matched in the MAFS experiment with Neelima, a 30-year-old cosmetics dentist from Manchester. I’m manifesting good things for them.
