Fifth Harmony return! And the comeback performance is already a hilariously iconic disaster

Camila Cabello is, however, nowhere to be found

You would be forgiven for thinking you tumbled down a time slip last night, after the official Fifth Harmony account on X made its first pose in seven years. Even the post was bizarre, with it simply being a very nostalgic #FifthHarmonyFollowSpree. This of course caused carnage for those who actually were invested in the world’s most mishap prone girl group in history – none more so than my boyfriend, who for some reason can name every single track in their discography if you play him a one second snippet of any song. That carnage turned to total meltdown when no more than a few hours later Fifth Harmony reunited – sans Camila Cabello, who wisely departed the band in 2016 – and performed together for the first time since 2018. And would it even be a new era of Fifth Harmony if the band didn’t return the exact way they left – as a hilariously iconic disaster? No, no it would not.

All four members of Fifth Harmony, namely Lauren Jauregi, Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane and Normani, are in a flop era with their solo endeavours and have come back together to maximise their joint floppery. It’s actually beautiful, iconic and nostalgic – and their messy return is as perfect as you’d have hoped.

Ally jumped out her skin at a spark

A pyro went off and Ally reacted like she’d just been shot – it was all very chaos. But at least she pulled it back together to hit a pose after it, which is all you could ask for. Especially because you know damn well the rest of them wouldn’t be hitting any sort of synchronised pose.

The Camila Cabello backing track was LOUD

In the surprise reunion last night, which was in the midst of the Jonas Brothers’ Dallas concert the group sang Worth It. Camila Cabello, the clear standout star of the group who was the first to depart for solo endeavours in 2016, sings lead on the chorus of Worth It. This resulted in her vocals booming out of a very loud backing track in the reunion performance that was getting suitably dragged online.

Lauren Jauregi’s tights were ripped

Things just never go smooth.

Dinah joked about how the group are never in sync

@dinahjanewe aren’t who we are, if we ain’t ever in sync 🤷🏽‍♀️♬ BO$$ – Fifth Harmony

Posting a TikTok, even Dinah Jane joked about how Fifth Harmony are never in sync. Their lack of cohesion and messy moments are actually probably more better known than the group’s singles – with 5H only getting two UK top 10 hit singles in their time and only four top 40 singles on the Billboard Hot 100.

Camila didn’t join in, but Fifth Harmony followed her on Insta

I love Camila Cabello and her album C, XOXO last year was for the arts not the charts – but it’s safe to say her solo career isn’t exactly thriving hard right now. Could this follow be an indicator that the true star of the group might actually be returning?

Fifth Harmony have already launched merch over their iconic disaster return last night, where fans can buy t shirts asking “where were you August 31st” as the reunion launched. It’s unclear whether this is going to lead into something bigger – but all the signs are pointing towards the fact that Fifth Harmony are back and more moments like this may be looming in our future.

I for one cannot wait.
