Debunked: Camila Cabello playing to an ’empty’ arena isn’t as shady as you think

Camila Cabello has sat viral for the past two days, and not necessarily for the reasons she may have wanted. At least, though – it’s nothing to do with the love triangle drama with Sabrina Carpenter and Shawn Mendes that has been sending rumour mills into tailspins. It is however, centred on her much unfairly maligned album C, XOXO and the general perception that Camila Cabello is in her flop era. A video of Camila Cabello performing has gone viral, which shows her playing what looks like an arena to a very small crowd. People have tried to drag her whilst others have praised her for doing it anyway, but not everything about Camila Cabello playing the empty arena is quite as Twitter might lead you to believe.

In a viral tweet mocking Camila Cabello, it appears she is performing a set at an empty arena. You might think this is some part of a big tour, but it’s actually not.

The tweets drag Camila Cabello for selling out ‘just around 30 per cent’ of her live show – but it’s worth noting that this performance was not actually a headline tour date or anything for Camila.

The performance was actually part of the AT&T Playoff Playlist is a travelling festival that also had like five other headliners – it wasn’t Camila Cabello specific. It wasn’t like she was touring the album and it just flopped – although of course it was open for public to buy tickets.

Musician Mod Sun spoke out defending Camila, explaining “99 per cent of artists would’ve cancelled the show and put out a ‘mental health’ statement. She just gained my respect by still performing. That show meant the world to the people in the crowd that night. Empty shows are still shows.”

One of Camila Cabello’s dancers confirmed that the performance would also signal the end of the C, XOXO era – and it’s a shame. This album deserved better, as does Camila Cabello always giving it 100 per cent and getting it mocked back in her face. Give her a break!
