Camila Cabello just addressed the Shawn Mendes triangle with Sabrina and I’m gagged

‘I was like, I’m writing this song for you b*tch’

One of the messiest pop dramas of the year is the back and forth shade thrown by Camila Cabello and Sabrina Carpenter regarding their romances with Shawn Mendes – with so many online sleuths clocking all the subtext between shady comments made, unsubtle TikToks posted and eyebrow raising music video casting choices. After Shawn Mendes spoke of his adoration for Camila in a podcast interview and with the New York Times, – Cabello addresses the saga around her song June Gloom with him.

For those unaware, June Gloom is the final song on C, XOXO – the fourth Camila Cabello album and her record that came out this year. In the lyrics, Camila explicitly says:

“If she’s so amazing, why are you on this side of town?
If you like her so much, what are you here trying to find out?

“Does she get this wet for you, baby?
Talk to you in poems and songs, huh, baby?
Little kiss make your head go hazy?
Is it really love if it’s not this crazy?
Does she move like this for you, darlin’?
Toying with me now, you know when I want it
I don’t lie, you’re the best, iconic
I know that I haven’t, but I hope you top it”

Obviously, quite eyebrow raising lyrics when knowing that Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes were last seen kissing in 2023 at Coachella, and Sabrina Carpenter also had dating rumours with him with her song Taste and its lyrics heavily sounding like they link to this. When Sabrina Carpenter dropped the music video for Taste starring Jenna Ortega as a suspiciously Camila coded character – Camila Cabello dropped a June Gloom video saying those above lyrics.

After Shawn Mendes said earlier this year that “If something was to happen to me, she’d probably be the first person I call,” about Camila Cabello, in her new profile for Nylon she was asked about June Gloom and addresses whole Shawn Mendes saga. Nylon said that Camila refused to say Shawn Mendes by name, but did get into the creation of it and it’s pretty blatant who she’s on about – in my opinion!

“I wrote June Gloom after I had hung out with [the song’s subject],” she says. “I went into the studio the next day and said, ‘Jasper, can you play me some beats?’ He was like, ‘This one, this one,’ and he skipped over June Gloom. I was like, ‘Oh wait! Go back!’” That’s when Cabello kicked producer Jasper Harris out of the studio.

“When I know I’m about to be intimate, I don’t want anybody [there]. I don’t want to be singing about feeling super horny, but then, like, this guy is right here. I wrote it so fast because to me, everything is so personal. I was like, ‘I’m writing this for you, bitch!’”

This is the peak pop culture triangle of the year.
