Revealed: The shockingly low amount participants are paid to take part in MAFS Australia
All that drama, and for what?
Have you ever sat back and watched the chaos unfold on MAFS Australia and thought, ‘you couldn’t pay me to put myself through that’? Because you know what, same. But the cast members are paid. And it’s not that much for the chaos they get put through.
Yep, the pay is low. You might think the cast members are in it for the money, but there’s no guarantee of that happening. Former MAFS Australia participants have said they were left “broke” after struggling to pay rent whilst taking part in the experiment. Plus, only very few make it as influencers and TV personalities afterwards. The success rate for actual couples is even worse.
Is it even worth it? Here’s a breakdown of how the pay for participants on MAFS Australia works.

How much is the pay for being on MAFS Australia?
It’s been previously reported that during filming, MAFS Australia participants receive pay of $150 a day, with a $125 grocery allowance. This would be $1,050 a week. It’s been said the pay reflects minimum wage.
Former MAFS Australia groom Nasser Sultan, who appeared on the 2019 season, told Now to Love: “You get $150 for the day, that’s it. But on top of that, you have to pay expenses – your living expenses. It’s not $150 clear. You still have to pay rent if you’re renting, you’ve got to pay your rego and it’s 12 hour filming days.”

An anonymous participant previously slammed the tiny amount the cast are paid. They said this left them “broke” and “unable to make rent payments” whilst being on the show. They claimed filming schedules had them up late, so they would often have to order takeaways. They also spent loads on outfits for commitment ceremonies and dinner parties.
Beyond their pay, MAFS cast probably hope for potential opportunities with brands and work after the show. Which you can hope make it’s worth it! Oh, and love too. Of course.
