Love Island’s Chris Hughes and gay pop pioneer JoJo Siwa have been forced to swat away romance rumours, and now, criticisms about their relationship centred around their pretty substantial age gap.
They didn’t win their season of Celebrity Big Brother, but JoJo and Chris are the only thing people are talking about about Jack P Shepherd was crowned the winner last week. After getting *very* close in the CBB house, and JoJo’s subsequent split from Kath Ebbs, the rather unique couple were pictured enjoying a weekend together. Soon enough, they put rumours to rest by revealing the truth of their connection.
“The thing is, our friendship is just a… It’s hard to explain… It’s just a really strong bond between two people, which is just a strong friendship,” Chris told the hosts of This Morning earlier this week.
But even now, people aren’t buying into what they’re selling; convinced JoJo and Chris are involved in some sordid love affair.

Chris Hughes and JoJo Siwa’s age gap is actually 11 years, as he’s 32 and JoJo is 21. In one TikTok post that has since amassed 1.1 million views and nearly 200k likes, someone stitched Chris and Kem’s 2017 track Little Bit Leave It – the one where Chris raps, “Man like Cash Hughes, nut in the mouth like cashew” – with JoJo’s 2016 song Boomerang. The contrast is startling, with Chris singing about the “rap life” and JoJo giving out her iconic bows to school friends.
“I actually wasn’t aware of the age difference, but now that I’m aware of it, I’m more grossed out than I was before,” one person wrote underneath as another said, “It’s crazy to say Jojo was FOURTEEN in 2017. I know this bc im a WEEK older than her, and I looked VERY different to this at 14.”
Another video showed how, in 2016, JoJo was competing on Dance Moms as Chris was necking on with Olivia Attwood in season three of Love Island.
Well, Chris Hughes noticed the narrative and responded accordingly, hitting back at someone on Instagram who called his age gap with JoJo Siwa “creepy.”
“I have friends who are 50+ too, you weirdo,” he said.
