Raging arguments to secret chats: All the gripping scenes cut from MAFS this season

Why did producers have to take these from us?!

It’s not over quite yet, but already, MAFS Australia season 12 has proved to be an explosive instalment in the international franchise with raging arguments, toxic marriages, and scenes that were cut for a variety of reasons.

Filming for MAFS takes place over three months, and with literally hours and hours of content to edit and snip together, not every single moment is going to make the final cut. Cast members have long slammed the show’s tradition of frankenbiting content – a technique that is apparently prolific across all reality TV – and season 12 of MAFS Australia has been more of the same. Morena Farina, Eliot Donovan, and Adrian Araouzou have all claimed that editing made them look worse.

Though we might never know why these scenes were cut from MAFS, it does make you wonder just how many gripping moments we might have missed thanks to the editors over at Channel Nine.

1. Ryan and Teejay’s MAFS argument was cut

You might remember a particularly tense moment at an earlier dinner party when Ryan Donnelly called Beth Kelly “classless.” Well, it turns out that argument grew steadily more intense when Beth’s hubby, Teejay Halkias, jumped in.

Teejay told Yahoo Lifestyle: “Ryan threw some choice words at my wife and started swearing at her, so I may or may not have politely asked him to stop doing that. It was quite a big thing at the dinner party. I got pretty heated, to be completely honest with you. I just don’t like when people come at my wife. He was swearing and that rubbed me the wrong way. The genie in the bottle came out.”

“I think Ryan and Beth were going at each other over something and he told her to ‘effing shut up’. I didn’t like that at all. I can’t remember the exact words verbatim, but it was somewhere along those lines. It definitely happened, and it definitely wasn’t nice.”

2. A tense moment between Tony and Morena was also removed from the show

MAFS

Morena and Tony just weren’t meant to be, and they’ve since gone their separate ways with the former slamming the show, producers, and her former hubby. During an appearance on It’s A Lot podcast with Abbie Chatfield, Morena detailed a moment that was ultimately cut from the final edit.

Morena claimed: “I said, ‘Tony, I need you to take a photo of me.’ And he said, ‘You got the look of a S-L-U-T’, and I said, ‘I beg your pardon?’. He then took my photo. A producer was there. She made him apologise to me.”

Another Morena and Tony moment that was cut saw the groom take a firm stance on loving his wife from BEFORE the experiment, not Morena.

“He [Tony] told everyone at the commitment ceremony, which is this week, that he loves his wife. He told directors and producers, ‘Bring my wife in,'” she revealed.

3. After Paul’s pow-pow moment, Carina’s chat with producers was cut

Paul

After Paul Antoine punched a wall in frustration over his wife’s previous fling with a famous rapper, Carina Mirabile spoke with producers off-screen about next steps. A source claimed producers “had to intervene” to ask Carina if she felt safe before “repairing the damage he’d done to their apartment.”

4. Awhina and Adrian’s lunch was much more chaotic

Awhina

We all knew that Adrian and Awhina were going to split, even if they didn’t. It was basically confirmed during a fiery confrontation between Awhina, her sister, Cleo, and Adrian’s friends, but apparently, that scene was much more dramatic in real life.

“I think it was worse. I think it was much worse,” Cleo told Megan Pustetto on her So Dramatic podcast. “They didn’t air a lot of what they were saying to my sister before I started jumping in.”

5. Lauren and Eliot had ‘multiple’ arguments cut

Awhina

Lauren and Eliot’s abysmal 48 hours together were not the greatest start to a series that is supposed to be about love. Eliot ultimately ditched his bride on their honeymoon, later coming back with Veronica Cloherty, but we didn’t see every argument in his first marriage.

“Like, if you meet somebody within the first 10 hours and you have an argument, let alone the first 48 hours and you have multiple arguments about multiple things that you disagree on, then that’s not healthy for anyone. Why would you stay around?” Eliot’s mate Jordy told So Dramatic.
