Attention! The Liverpool Tab is looking for a new Features Editor to join the 2025/26 team

Applications to join our team will close at 23:59 on 1st May – run, don’t walk!

Do you know your way around a trend? Are you officially the funniest person in your friend group? Were you obsessed with personality quizzes as a kid? Then we have the job for you.

The Liverpool Tab is now recruiting for the next academic year, and we are delighted to have available the role of Features Editor in our team! We are both student led and oriented, so you can rest assured you will be joining a passionate team of fellow student journalists who you can rely on for guidance and support.

We strongly encourage applications from any of Liverpool’s universities, and there is only one requirement, that you must be an enrolled student for the entire duration of the academic session.

This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with a passion for journalism or writing, and proves both valuable experience and a fantastic talking point for a variety of future career paths and interviews.

Your CV will be blessed with all kinds of quizzes, funny articles and hilarious takes on trending topics.

You don’t need to have prior experience in journalism either!

What is The Tab?

The Tab is a national media outlet that covers a wide variety of topics, which range from news, student life, and youth culture and has amassed over nine million readers a month.

Originally founded by three students from Cambridge University, The Tab is now involved in nearly 30 unis across the country, where student reporters write articles that are important to young people.

The national site covers everything from important news stories to celebrity controversies and university scandals. There’s really something for everyone on there.

The Liverpool Tab is our own branch of the national site that is aimed directly at our student body. We cover all sorts of on-campus news, student opinion and important events around each university in the city, and we top that all off with our hilarious features pieces, that you could be in charge of next year!

So, what does a Features Editor do?

This role is fantastic in that it gives you a great deal of creative freedom to create content that Glasgow students want to see. With assistance from your Editor in Chief and Assistant Editor at Tab HQ, you will be responsible for everything from commissioning, supervising, editing and of course, writing the iconic pieces which are amongst the most engaging with our viewership.

You’ll be able to cover every aspect of student life, from nightlife to fashion and food, and will be working on pieces that cover current opinions, fun guides and witty commentary on campus life.

You will also oversee the quizzes, opinion pieces, guides and other fun stories that we write. Rating outfits on campus, or arguing which Liverpool club is better – as Features Editor you’ll have a keen interest in everything relevant and relatable to Liverpool students.

However, your role is not simply limited to this, and you will also assume some more general editorial duties, like supporting your Editors in Chief and the News Editor with general editing and management duties if required.

You will also be expected to attend our weekly writers meetings, as well as maintain regular contact with your editorial team. You may also get the chance to collaborate with local organisations, and often get the privilege of attending events of student interest throughout the year in a media capacity, such as Student Fight Night in Liverpool.

Here are the types of articles you’ll be writing:

We scouted out Liverpool’s best pints of Guinness so you don’t have to

I spent a week romanticising my student life in Liverpool and this is how it went

We asked and you delivered: Here are Liverpool students’ worst dating horror stories

If you have any of these things in your winter wardrobe then you’re defo a Liverpool student

21 New Year’s Resolutions all Liverpool students should stick to, but defo won’t

What experience is needed and what do I gain from this position?

Whilst experience in journalism or writing can afford you well, what we value most someone who has a passion for producing great quality content for our growing student audience in Glasgow and beyond, and who has a keen eye for a story. So even if you do not have prior experience; we want to hear from you!

Our Editor in Chief especially wants to recruit someone willing to dedicate plenty of time to The Liverpool Tab. We’re a flexible team and make sure everything fits around our studies, but someone who is switched on, aware of trends and can write with a fun, lighthearted flair would be an ideal addition to our team.

Through this role there is much to be gained; an extensive writing portfolio, an understanding of journalistic procedure, as well as access to a whole network of passionate student journalists, and even the chance to write for The Tab’s national website.

We offer training sessions, covering everything from media law to the stylistic side of journalism, so you’ll have the chance to really expand your knowledge during your time with us – and most of all, we’re a lovely team!

Being part of The Tab also looks great on your CV, as editors have gone on to write for companies such as Vogue, The Times, BBC, and The Telegraph. If a career in journalism is on the cards for you, then this role is definitely something you should consider.
