Back and better than ever: Meet the students boxing in Fight Night Liverpool

There’s a Peep Show character and quizzer from The Chase fighting this year?

It’s renowned across the city as one of Liverpool’s best student events of the year, and it’s back and better than ever. Fight Night Liverpool returns to The Olympia on March 13th, and you’re all in for a treat, believe us.

For five weeks, students from the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores have been racking up their training minutes in the gym, in preparation for the big night in the ring.

This year’s event is dedicated to Ethan Trickett, a third year dentistry student at the University of Liverpool, who sadly passed away whilst on holiday in Spain this year. He competed in Fight Night in 2024.

Fight Night Liverpool are working closely with the JackTheLad Foundation in memory of Ethan, to raise money and spread awareness on young peoples’ safety whilst travelling abroad.

With support from Liverpool University Dental Students Society (LUDSS) this year’s boxing event will pack an important punch, as students plan to honour Ethan as an integral part of the Fight Night family.

Over £2,600 has been raised for the family’s chosen charity through their JustGiving page.

It’s an event we all know and love, and with a poignant message to fight for this year, it’s time to meet our student boxers.

Oisín Kelly vs Elias Torres

Kicking us off with the first matchup for Fight Night 2025 are two Liverpool John Moores University giants. Cardiff’s own Oisín Kelly is already hitting hard with his ring name The Machine – the Welshman is representing LJMU Boxing Society, so let’s hope his training experience comes in handy.

Facing him in the ring is Elias Torres, flying the flag for LJMU Football. He might be good with his feet, but is he good with his hands too? There’s only one way to find out. With one student fight night already under his belt, this matchup is sure to bring some energy as the boys battle it out for the crown.

Jack Carroll vs Paddy Higgitt

Next into the ring are two university rivals. Jack Carroll is stepping up for LJMU Gym in hopes to do them proud with some stellar punches throughout the night. Fingers crossed he’s been focusing on arm day, because Fight Night takes no prisoners when it comes to strength and stamina. He may be known as The Hijacker, but has he got it in him to he steal the show on the day and take it in the right direction?

Jack is up against a UoL Engineering Rugby player in Paddy The Daddy Higgitt. He’s got the name and the moustache, so we’re expecting big things from the boxer as he takes on a huge clash. Best of luck boys!

Zapher Inacio vs Henri Hodgson

Fight Night Liverpool are expecting to have The Prince in attendance, and no, we don’t mean from Buckingham Palace. Zapher Inacio is bringing the powerful punches on behalf of the African Caribbean Society at LJMU, and with a ring name like that, he’s destined to become Fight Night royalty.

In the other corner is Henri, known as The Haymaker. He’s part of the UoL Rugby team, and we can only hope there’s a reason behind the name choice because this matchup is bound to be a heavy one. It’s another uni rivalry clash, and we all know it’ll get heated.

Ciaran Eastman vs Stefan Suter

Stepping into the ring next is another UoL Rugby face, Ciaran Eastman. He’s hoping to take down Stefan Suter in one of the first locked in fights of the night, and bring home the crown for the boys back at Wyncote. Nicknamed The Beast, he might very well be in the chase to victory as he dances around the ring on the night – hopefully his boxing is better than his quiz brain, if you get what we mean.

Representing LJMU Hockey is Stefan, who is far too slick to even have a nickname. His boxing persona may be simplistic, but he’s sure to get technical with his jabs as he tries to take down The Beast of Wyncote. Good luck guys!

Jenny Morrison vs Shania Lord

Manchester’s finest Jenny Morrison is reaching for a Fight Night victory this year. She’s part of UoL’s Psychology Society – so keep an eye out for her mind games, because she’s about to hypnotise her opponent. Don’t be fooled if she takes the W in the ring though, because she’s still just our Jenny From The Block.

Representing the Women’s Rugby team at UoL is Shania Lord, and she’s feeling super fierce. With years worth of tackling experience under her belt, this boxer won’t stray away from hitting hard and fighting harder. The atmosphere for this one will be electric!

Megan Daley vs Charlotte Blakeney

The next two girls to step into the ring are packing punches and power this year. Megan Daley is boasting some explosive energy, running completely solo for fight night without a society, but plenty of friends backing her. She definitely won’t be called The Destroyer for no reason – training hard, and punching harder, she’s one to watch.

Charlotte Blakeney is another fighter putting Manchester on the map for Fight Night, with plans to make UoL Engineering Netball proud as she swings into the ring. Her nickname may be Break A Knee, but we’re all hoping she won’t be in a cast by the end of the night – unless she’s scouted for the next Rocky film, of course.

Mia Aggarwal vs Scarlett Armstrong

There’s no stopping the female fighters in Fight Night 2025, and we’ve got another intense matchup that is bound to blow the roof off The Olympia on March 13th. Mia Aggarwall is bringing all the intense boxing vibes we’re looking for this year – she goes by Mimi No Mercy, and something’s telling us she’ll be a strong contender for this clash.

LUDSS’ very own Scarlett Armstrong is flying the flag in honour of Ethan Trickett this year. She’s the president of the UoL Dentistry society that are supporting the fundraiser for the JackTheLad foundation, the charity of choice of Ethan’s family following his unfortunate passing earlier this year. With plenty of support sat on her shoulders, Scarlett will be a fan favourite on the night as she throws some powerful punches in memory of a loved member of the student community. If anyone is destined to live up to the Strong Arm moniker, it’s Scarlett.

Marcus Turner-Wood vs Ethan Smith

Another duo entering the ring completely solo are Marcus and Ethan. Known as Marcus Corrigan in the student boxing world, he’s certain to turn the Fight Night heads with his big personality – fingers crossed he won’t freak out about a lack of festive turkey this year.

Ethan Smith will be up for a challenge on the mat, but with a ring name like The Sniper, he should be able to aim and land his punches like a professional. With killer execution and top-tier energy, the student will bring some classy expertise to Fight Night that the crowds will absolutely love.

Zion Agbiji vs Liam Steel

They just keep on coming, don’t they? This matchup is already feeling intense. Zion Agbiji is the second fighter to be representing LJMU’s African Caribbean society in this year’s Fight Night, and their turnout in support of the two boxers will be incredible. Zion is stepping into the ring under the name Kakarot, inspired by Goku from Dragon Ball Z. He’s oozing confidence already, and with an alias like his, there’s definitely some fighting confidence backing him.

Liam Steel has taken the humbler approach to his stage name for Fight Night, going for Punchbag. We can only hope this is a reflection of his opponent and not himself, because he’ll need all the energy and determination he can get to take down a warrior like Zion. He’s a member of the UoL Snow Society, so we know he’s got a cool and calm demeanour hiding in there somewhere.

Alex Barrie vs Caitlin James

Facing off in the Fight Night ring are two more ferocious female fighters looking to steal the glory of the evening. Alex Barrie is backed by her team over at UoL Hockey and is guaranteed to have the power to intimidate her opponent. It might seem simple, but her nickname of The Lion tells us everything we need to know about her – strong, determined and fearless. She was the first fighter to be announced for this tournament, and definitely one to watch.

Caitlin James is boasting the ring name of Lincredible this year. She’s got a powerful sense about her, and is bound to cause chaos on the mat as she reaches for the Fight Night crown. She’s training hard, packing a good punch, and you should never underestimate her – she’s bound to surprise you.

Ray Dowland vs Isaac Sephton

Sugar Ray may be one of the world’s most famous boxing icons, but this year he’s at The Olympia in the form of Ray Downland. He’s already looking confident, and if anyone’s going to bring the heat to Fight Night, it’ll be Ray. The ring won’t know what’s coming for it on March 13th. Ray Dowland is going pound-for-pound with a UoL Politics Football mastermind, so we’re in for a treat, for sure.

Isaac Sephton isn’t known as Big Jugs for no reason. He’s a certified gymfluencer, and I’d be pretty intimidated by him if I were Ray Dowland this year. UoL Politics Football are already shining the light on Isaac to be a fan favourite on the night, and with arms of steel like his, I wouldn’t even think about disagreeing with them.

Rooshy Patel vs Jack Nevin

The final announced matchup of the night feels like everything you’d want to see in a student Fight Night. Bringing up the rear of the pack is another UoL Rugby player, this time for the Engineering team. Rooshy Patel is bringing some insanely fearless energy with his ringside nickname The Cobra. It’s simple, fierce and does the job – just like he’ll do on the night. Fight Night fans are already calling for a fast round one knockout from The Cobra, so he’s one to watch when he steps into the ring.

It’s hard to follow a legacy character like that, but Jack Nevin is offering up some strength and resilience as his opponent. Representing Northern Ireland, he’s sure to have some fans in the house cheering him on during the big fight. It may sound like a lot to take on, but he is known as The Ripper after all. Keep an eye on him, because there’s a chance he’ll finish off his fighter and disappear long into the night, with no traces to be found. Jack will be mysterious and sting like a bee, a perfect match for The Cobra.

Now we’ve got those matchups laid out on the table, it’s time to place your bets amongst your friends and get organised for the big night, because it’s coming around quick and tickets will be snapped up quicker than a punch from The Cobra.

With such a mixed bag of boxers and societies this year, it’s destined to be an incredible Fight Night, and with donations in aid of LUDSS and the JackTheLad foundation going to impacted families and friends, supporters will be making a difference too, all in Ethan’s name.

Fight Night Liverpool will see you on March 13th at The Olympia for a night packed with ferocious energy, and you really don’t want to miss out.
