Six years on, Jack Fincham finally reveals tragic reason he and Dani split after Love Island

I had no idea things had gotten this bad

Six years on from when it happened, Love Island winner Jack Fincham has finally revealed why he and Dani Dyer split up. The former couple won the show in 2018, then broke up for a bit, before getting back together. In 2019, it was revealed they had called time on their relationship once and for all.

At the time, the couple said things hadn’t worked out for them. “We have some amazing memories together and have been through a lot but sometimes things aren’t meant to be,” Jack said on his Instagram story at the time. “We really did try to make it work but it unfortunately didn’t and that’s life.”

This weekend, Jack has spoken out in an interview for the first time, admitting his struggles with drugs, alcohol and gambling. He said he’s spent over £1million on his addictions, and things got so bad for him he attempted to take his own life.

During this chat, with The Sun, Jack said his addictions also played a huge part in his split from Dani. He admitted they split because his “priorities were wrong” and he said he was also dealing with mental health difficulties after leaving the villa.

“Drugs helped my relationship with Dani fail,” he said. “I was absent, my priorities were wrong, I wasn’t a great boyfriend. I am determined to change my future.”

Jack added: “Destruction was always in me, but fame and money made it happen quicker. I can’t say Love Island ruined my life – I did that myself. I, Jack Fincham, am an addict. I feel like a failure, utterly mortified by the things I have done. I had the world at my feet and I screwed it up.”
