Jack Fincham admits he spent £1million on drugs and gambling and tried to take his own life

‘I can’t say Love Island ruined my life – I did that myself’

Love Island winner Jack Fincham has admitted he spent over £1million on drugs, alcohol and gambling. In an interview, he has said he was so low at one point, he attempted to take his own life.

Jack won Love Island in 2018 alongside Dani Dyer, but has admitted he now feels like a “failure” after fame “brought out destruction” in him. This comes not long after Jack was jailed after his dog was involved in a viscous attack. He plead guilty to two counts of being in charge of a dangerously out of control dog, with one of the incidents causing injury.

Speaking to The Sun, Jack has opened up for the first time about his struggles with addiction. He said his life spiralled out of control, and in one day alone, he spent £40k on online gambling.

“I can’t say Love Island ruined my life – I did that myself. I, Jack Fincham, am an addict,” he said. “I feel like a failure, utterly mortified by the things I have done. I had the world at my feet and I screwed it up.

“Embarrassed just doesn’t touch it. It is hideous. I cry when I think about how I’ve let people down. I have blown more than a million pounds thanks to drugs, booze and gambling.”

He said he “messed up” his life, and once tried to take his own life when things were at their lowest. He also revealed he was once detained by police after going into a drug withdrawal “psychosis”. Jack told The Sun he gave up anti-anxiety drug Xanax after going into rehab.

“I ended up in psychosis because I hadn’t slept,” Jack said. “My body felt possessed. One night I woke up, went outside into someone’s driveway and took a kid’s trike. However, despite saying he is “worse off” now financially, Jack thanked his friends and family, and girlfriend Chloe Brockett, for helping him to get his life on track. He said Chloe had found his Xanax pills, and threw them away. She threatened to leave if he didn’t sort himself out.
