Sam Thompson reveals heartbreaking reason he hasn’t addressed breakup after ‘tough month’

Sam Thompson finally dished on his sudden breakup from Zara McDermott, explaining his reasoning behind keeping his mouth shut on the most recent episode of his Staying Relevant podcast with Pete Wicks.

We all remember where we were on January 1, the day Sam and Zara’s five-year relationship came to a close after years of adorable moments and insights into their relationship. I’m still not over it.

At the time, an insider told the MailOnline: “Sam and Zara have ended their relationship. It’s been an incredibly difficult decision for them to part ways, they still care and have a lot of love for each other. But after a tough year of working hard at their romance, they have split and will be focusing on their individual careers going forward into 2025.”

Besides a few tidbits here and there – which included the realisation she’d moved out weeks ago – both parties have remained eerily silent about the drama.

Sam Thompson shares the REAL reason he hasn’t issued a statement

Speaking on a recent episode of his Staying Relevant podcast with bestie Pete Wicks, Sam explained that the breakup from Zara made the Christmas period considerably harder.

“My favourite part of speaking to you… I said, ‘How was your Christmas?’ and you went, ‘Mate, it wasn’t good. It was like being in a Christmas tomb.’ One of my favourite sentences of all time,” Pete recalled.

When Pete pushed him more with “What’s been going on?”, clearly a nod to his breakup, Sam explained that there was very little information he was willing to share.

“The only thing I’m going to say – because it’s not fair on the other parties and stuff – but it’s been a tough month. A real tough month,” he said, further noting how he was keeping his lips shut out of “respect” for Zara. Rather than lie around feeling sorry for himself, Sam spent much of Christmas helping the less fortunate.

I’m still holding out for a dramatic recoupling. They did it before, they can do it again.
