They lost to Wolfson College, Cambridge in the quarter finals

Warwick University were defeated in the quarter finals of University Challenge yesterday, one step away from the semi-finals.

The winners, Wolfson College, Cambridge, will now face Edinburgh and Emmanuel College, Cambridge.

Wolfson had been in the lead with a score of 135-45 halfway through the programme, which they extended before Warwick came back to finish with 175 points to Wolfson’s 205.

One of the most well known members of the Warwick team, Sophie Rudd, had been subject to criticism by Twitter trolls but demonstrated her intelligence and composure alongside the rest of her team in the episode.

Viewers took to Twitter during the episode to commentate the rivalry between Rudd and Eric Monkman, a member of the Cambridge team well known for his comical outbursts and exaggerated facial expressions.

Warwick had previously defeated Liverpool, the University of East London and Bristol.

The final quarter final will be broadcast on Monday.
