| UPDATED

It’s that time of the year again when the sun peeps its head out and everyone gets over-excited, starts wearing shorts and suggests a BBQ, only to realise that it’s actually still bloody freezing.

Nonetheless, on a lovely sunny day in Sheff, you can’t beat a post-lecture pint outside in the sunshine. Here are some of the best places to have a pint with pals.

The Francis Newton

Here comes the sun..

One of the nicest Wetherspoon pubs in Britain, The Francis Newton is five minutes from uni and is ideal to pop into on a sunny evening. The beer is cheap, and it’s on the 120 bus route from Endcliffe and Ranmoor. There’s a big seating area outside with loads of places to sit, and it gets a lot of sun in the afternoon.

On Eccy Road, near M&S, lies The Nursery Tavern. At the back, there’s a large decking area where you can sit with your pint of Carlsberg and watch the world go by. It’s uber edgy and they also sell loyalty cards to students so you get money off booze – an added bonus

This beautiful sun trap is IN the Union, never mind near it! Have one of Bar One’s delicious burgers with a cheap pint and you’re laughing. There’s also a raised bit that you can go and sit in and see the views over our beautiful Steel City.

This inner-city restaurant is Sheffield’s coolest bar just off Devonshire Green. A great place to people watch and a large seating area outside where you’ll always find somewhere to sit, and even has some deck chairs to make you feel like you’re on the beach.

Walkabout

Despite looking a bit like an orphanage from the outside, the smoking area/beer garden is lovely, and as an added bonus, there’s a food van too! With fairy lights and round wooden tables, it makes for a cool area to sit.

The University Arms

An old favourite, this bar is undeniably cool and has a lovely, sunny beer garden at the back. Now a registered CAMRA pub, all you man buns can go and get a lovely pint of IPA there and sit in their beautiful beer garden surrounded by shrubbery and flowers. Don’t expect to get too relaxed though, as the IC literally looms over you like a scary monster.

The Dam House

A short walk along Mushroom Lane and you’ll find The Dam House. Oh so close to the gym, it’s just too tempting on a warm day not to pop in for a swift pint. It’s got a beautiful seating area outside by the water and you can pretend you’re on Lake Garda if you imagine it really hard.

Hallamshire House

Home to the trendy students of Sheffield, Hallamshire House is in Crookesmoor, and whilst it would probably be classed as more of an “outdoor seating area”, their beer garden is so cool. Equipped with sofas, you can grab yourself a pint of real ale before heading downstairs. A lot of it is undercover though, so it perfectly suits those of us who are pale.

The Springvale Tavern

Very much a “locals” pub, located in Crookesmoor, this pub has a massive garden at the back which becomes something of a “sun trap” during the summer months. The beer isn’t too expensive, and it’s right opposite Rajput for a curry afterwards.
