Warwick for Free Education hold mass protest in University House

They occupied the finance office

Yesterday afternoon Warwick for Free Education entered University House and occupied the finance office in a demonstration against the removal of maintenance grants.

While inside the finance office the group began a occupational style demonstration, stating on their Facebook page that the demonstration, also against free open education, was “indefinite”.

The group have stated that they believe the finance office to be complicit regarding the removal of student grants, this being why the finance office was chosen in particular for this particular demonstration.

They have also added that the finance office in particular are “complicit in the deterioration of our University into a mere business, and must be interrupted.”

At the moment the university has a court injunction against these particular demonstrations on university property and as of yet it is unclear as to whether Warwick for Free Education are disobeying this particular injunction.

A spokesperson for Warwick for Free Education added that “obviously the injunction is an attempt to scare students away from protest, but we will not stop campaigning until the injunction is lifted. If we let the injunction inhibit our protesting we would be giving into the university repressive’s tactics and we will not allow that to happen.”

The protest was monitored and is yet another in the long list of previous protests against this particular matter.
