Arboretum school evacuated after bomb scare

It turned out to be a hoax

Nottingham Girl’s High School in the Arboretum area was evacuated this morning following a bomb scare.

A cordon was set up on Forest Road East at the Mansfield Road junction near Sainsbury’s Local at about 9am whilst police investigated the situation and found it was all a hoax.

Terrified pupils gathered on Addison Street away from the school grounds until about 10:30am when searches were complete and roads were opened again.

Fashion Marketing and Branding second year, Lauren Fenney, who lives on Balmoral Road said: “I was taking out the bins this morning at about 10am and saw police cars go past. I saw tape being put up at the end of the road to stop cars driving down it and then I heard two schools were shut because of the bomb scare.

“I saw a couple of people outside their house and didn’t really know what was happening so I looked on social media and read about the bomb scare which alarmed me a bit but felt safe there was police about to help inform the public.”

A spokesman from the school told the Nottingham Post: “We received a bomb threat this morning and the school was immediately evacuated.

“The buildings were checked by the police and, once they were declared safe, the girls returned to their lessons.

“Parents were informed of the situation as soon as possible.”

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesperson said: “We wouldn’t advise the public to approach a package or item they didn’t know the exact nature of, and we just advise everyone to keep safe.”
